God- The One With Us In Every Battle & Storm We Face

The song “Another in the Fire” by Hillsong United is so powerful with the imagery of the story of the fiery furnace and the story of Moses and the parting the Red Sea- The imagery of God being present in those moments.

The last part of the song says:

“There’ll be another in the fire
Standing next to me
There’ll be another in the waters
Holding back the seas
And should I ever need reminding
How good You’ve been to me
I’ll count the joy come every battle
‘Cause I know that’s where You’ll be”

Other words in the song that are so powerful to me are “Either way I won’t bow
To the things of this world
And I know I will never be alone”

Make sure to listen to the whole song on the link at the bottom of this post- The lyrics are so good!

God’s power is the one that sets us free, and the one that walks with us through every battle, through every fire, through every high and raging sea around us. He is still the same yesterday, today, and forever. We must rest in this truth and knowledge, or we will be tossed around by every wave that comes our way (See James 1:5-6 on asking God for wisdom and not doubting as you ask).

Our family had yet another battle hit us last week out of nowhere. Another fight- advocating and praying hard and entering into new and different territory for us. Praying for healing. Praying for life and protection. Bringing each important request before the Lord…And the Lord walked along with us through each and every request. He was so gracious to answer the requests made on our behalf by so many blessed friends in Christ- God brought just the right doctors, just the right nurses- compassionate, competent, careful people to do the work needed and do what needed to be accomplished. God allowed the testing and appointments to occur exactly when necessary for the care to be given.

We are grateful. God was in the midst last week.

Now, we are weary and recovering from last week’s battle.

At this time- in the aftermath of a strong focus and fight- Satan can sneakily creep in to do his work in our minds and hearts- when our strength is diminished and the battle seems to be over, for the most part. The aftermath is a time to rest and recover but to also be aware- to continue to be alert and stalwart against the enemy’s attacks. To buttress up the strong fortress of yourself up against any additional attacks. To be on the lookout for emotions, feelings, or attitudes that may creep in all of a sudden and try to stay- ones that need to be handed over to the Lord immediately and prayed against.

In the time of recovery and rest, it’s so important to continue to pray, to lean into reading God’s word, to identify His blessings and goodness in your life. It’s also important to make time to process through the events of the battle and acknowledge the answers to prayer that occurred in the midst of it.

To continue to look for God’s goodness in your present day with all of its’ challenges, struggles, and blessings.

To give yourself grace and allow yourself to rest. To be.

It’s important to have self-care and be restored in your physical, emotional, & spiritual strength.

Count the joy that is before you through every battle and every mountaintop. God is there in each and every place.

I felt his gracious presence as he cared for each specific request through our battle and made the way quickly for what needed to be done when the timing was urgent and important. We were grateful. We still are. God is in the midst.

And so, friends, I ask – what fire has come against you unexpectedly, unknowingly, and taken you by surprise? Or is it a long-standing one that is slow going- One in which you have to take one step in front of the other, bit by bit.

God is with you in that as well. As he is with me in each slow going battle that I face. He stands with me. He holds back the waves against me, to not crash over me. He is good.

He whispers calm and peace over my heart as I trust in him. He brings me back to a place of rest, restoration, and reviving. After the storm.

He is kind. He is to be trusted.

And He can bring peace and calm over you as well. Restoration, reviving, increased strength.

After all, Psalms 23: 1-3 states, “The Lord is my shepherd. I shall not be in want. He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside quiet waters, He restores my soul.”

The Lord cares deeply for you and for me and provides the rest and care that we have need of, if we will follow Him and allow Him to guide us, give Him the position of being the good shepherd and leader in our life. Will you trust Him and allow Him to care for you in each and every thing? I am working on this continual trust piece too- handing every care and issue over to Him to care for, to lead in, to provide for me through. And He is faithful. And we can rest in that truth.

This post is such a good reminder of that God will ever be our present help in time of trouble. Giving yourself grace to rest definitely spoke to me in my current season as well. Thanks for sharing.

I’m so glad it was an encouragement to you! I think we can definitely forget that next piece of giving ourselves the grace to rest after a battle. Thanks for your comment!
